The Quince Closet guide

How to sell on Quince Closet

Let your gown be part of someone else’s special day. Create an honest listing, connect with buyers, and get paid directly.

  1. Create your account and prepare your photos

Sign in, then choose “Sell a Dress.” Photograph the actual gown in good light: front, back, details, and any flaws. Use clear dress photos rather than unrelated images, and include measurements and any alterations in your description.

  2. Tell buyers about your dress

Complete the required fields marked with an asterisk. Add the size, color, condition, asking price, and a useful description. Include Designer and Model/Style if you know them, plus the original price if you want buyers to see the discount. You can save a draft if you’re not ready.

  3. Choose how you’ll accept payment

Choose online PayPal payments, cash only, or both. Set a shipping price for shipped purchases. If you accept cash, City and State are required so buyers can find you locally. For online sales, add your PayPal.me link under “Getting paid” in your dashboard.

Quince Closet takes no commission. PayPal charges sellers a Goods & Services transaction fee; our current seller notice lists 2.9%. Check PayPal’s current rates for your account and transaction, including any additional charges.

  4. Submit your listing and answer buyers

Submit your gown for review. Once approved, it can appear in Browse. Use Quince Closet messages to answer questions, agree on shipping timing or a public pickup location, and clarify return terms before the buyer pays. Manage your listing from “My Listings” in your dashboard.

You can set a cover photo and reorder existing photos from the listing edit page. A listing removed by an admin must be reviewed again before it can go live.

  5. Check your PayPal account before shipping

For an online order, open your dashboard’s sales section and verify the buyer’s payment in your own PayPal account. Check the amount and transaction details—not just a screenshot or email. Only then select “Payment received.” The buyer’s full shipping address stays hidden until you confirm.

The buyer’s “I’ve sent the payment” confirmation is not proof that money arrived. Never ship based only on that confirmation.

  6. Ship with care—or complete a local handoff

Pack the gown securely, arrange your own shipping label, and follow PayPal’s seller-protection requirements, including the delivery address and proof of shipment. If the address on the order differs from the PayPal transaction, resolve it before shipping. Add the tracking number in your dashboard. For cash sales, meet in public, let the buyer inspect the gown, and confirm payment before handing it over. Mark the listing sold so other buyers know it’s no longer available.

Keep the magic. Skip the pressure.

Keep conversations in Quince Closet messages. Don’t send advance hold deposits through Zelle, Venmo, Cash App, or wire transfer. For local cash sales, meet in a public place and inspect the dress before paying.

If a listing looks suspicious, use “Report this listing” on the dress page. Sign in to submit a report. Admin review is not a guarantee that a seller or listing is genuine.

A few things to know

When do I receive my money?

The buyer pays your PayPal account directly; Quince Closet does not send payouts or hold funds. PayPal may apply its own holds or availability rules. Check your account and follow PayPal’s guidance before confirming payment and shipping.

Can I sell locally for cash?

Yes. Choose cash only or both and include your city and state. Arrange the handoff in Quince Closet messages, meet in a public place, and allow the buyer to inspect the dress before payment. A legitimate local cash sale does not require an advance hold deposit.

What if my listing is still waiting for approval?

It won’t appear in public browsing until it’s approved. You can check its status in My Listings. Provide clear, relevant photos and an accurate description; review is not a promise of a particular approval time.

Does Quince Closet provide shipping labels or handle returns?

No shipping label is generated for you. Arrange shipping yourself and add tracking to the sale — our Shipping & Packing guide covers how to pack a gown, where to get boxes, typical costs, and where to buy a discounted label. Discuss return terms with the buyer before payment, keep your messages and shipping evidence, and respond through PayPal if a buyer opens a dispute there.
